This mule deer wildlife scene, set in the snowy mountains east of the artist's
studio in Holden, Utah, depicts a typical reaction when alarmed by the Paiute
(Shoshonean) Indian, on horseback, coming down the slope. Startled does and young
bucks bolt for safety with distance. A wiley old buck, knowing well the tricks
of survival, creeps back up the ravine, seeking concealment in fallen trees and
brush.....he's going to ground at Cedar Springs! Could this be the one that got
away those many years ago?
