Crossing a mountain stream in Vietnam's central highlands jungle, this small search
and destroy force climbs slowly out of sight up the mountainside and into a dense
tangle of teak and banyan trees. A 1st Lieutenant infantry platoon leader directs his
men across the highly exposed swift water, while keeping a wary eye out for any possible
enemy activity along their back trail. 1st Lieutenant Frank Thomas and his combat art
teams researched their art by taking part in operations of this type...
as soldiers first, then as artists.
